Serving with Sunshine: Catechism Students Trade Sales for Service, Raising Funds for Orphanage

KUALA LUMPUR — The spirit of service was alive and well among the Standard 6 and Form 2 Catechism students of Good Shepherd Church, who recently channeled their entrepreneurial skills into a heartfelt act of charity. These young stewards dedicated their efforts to raising funds and collecting essential supplies for Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary.

A Breakfast Sale That Went Beyond the Ordinary

The initiative kicked off on Sunday, November 30, 2025, with a truly remarkable Breakfast Sale. The students didn’t just organize a simple sale; they curated an impressive, “out of the ordinary” menu that captivated the parish community.

The selection included:

  • Savory staples like Nasi Lemak and Mee Hoon (fried vermicelli).
  • Popular beverages such as Milo and Vitagen.
  • Sweet treats including Cookies, Chocolates, and Cupcakes.

Their collective effort and outstanding salesmanship paid off handsomely, resulting in a significant amount of money raised—a testament to the students’ hard work and the generous support of the church community.

Delivering Hope Under the Sun

The second phase of their mission took place on Sunday, December 7, 2025. On this day, the children of Standard 6 and Form 2 embarked on a meaningful journey to the Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary. Despite the hot sun, they bravely marched, carrying all the grocery items purchased with the funds they had worked so hard to collect. This physical act of carrying the donations symbolized their commitment to serving those in need.

Feast and Fellowship: A Joyful Conclusion

After completing their important service, the students returned to the Parish Hall for a well-deserved celebration of their final Catechism class. The mood was festive and bright:

  • They gathered for a fun, year-end class party.
  • They sang Christmas carols together, filling the hall with joyful seasonal melodies.
  • They enjoyed a great feast to mark the end of their year and the success of their charitable project.

The day perfectly blended the joy of giving with the warmth of Christian fellowship.

A Note of Heartfelt Gratitude

This successful project would not have been possible without the immense support from the church community:

  • To the Parents: Thank you for your incredible support in providing the items for the breakfast sale and for wholeheartedly encouraging your children in these crucial acts of service. Your commitment to fostering goodwill and charity in your children is truly inspiring.
  • To the Catechism Teachers: A massive thank you for your tireless efforts in preparing and organizing the grocery items, coordinating the transportation and delivery, and putting together a memorable and festive final class party. Your dedication to teaching faith through action is deeply appreciated.

The students’ hard work in selling and their dedication to marching and delivering the goods under the hot sun served as a powerful reminder that giving back is one of the greatest joys of the Christmas season.
