Who is the patron saint of carpenters? We turn to Saint Joseph, the foster father of Jesus. Saint Joseph is an enigmatic figure in the Gospel. Though we know less about his life, Saint Joseph is well- loved by Catholics.

There are many symbols of Saint Joseph we can identify. One of them is a carpenter’s square of tools. It signifies his work as a carpenter. Jesus learned some carpentry skills from his foster father when growing up. Joseph as a Carpenter would have also worked with stones and the mason is a closer carpentry tool that we relate.

  • Do we take time to improve and to do better at our work place each day and to extend a helping hand?
  • Do we use humility in our profession?
  • Do we apply the virtue of patience in our profession?
  • How do we look at our subordinates when we have been entrusted with authority?
