KUALA LUMPUR: The Easter Vigil on 7 April 2012 at the Church of Good Shepherd, Setapak marked another historical event for the church. A total of 51 baptisms involving 36 adults and 15 children were administered. In addition to the baptism, 6 adults received their confirmation on the same night. Although the Vigil Mass started at 10pm and ended late into the night, the spirit of the congregation was high throughout. The evening was also very meaningful for ten couples whose marriages were convalidated by Fr V A Michael on Easter Night.
The Vigil started with the blessing of the fire at the entrance of the church. The Liturgy of the Word was read in all four languages. Fr VA Michael gave his homily in English, Tamil and Bahasa Malaysia encouraging the congregation to evangelise and encourage more candidates to come forward to join the RCIA. Our new residential Priest, Fr Paul also gave a brief homily in Mandarin.
Both priests subsequently proceeded to administer baptism and confirmation and the sanctuary was overcrowded with approximately 100 people — catechumens, children and their god-parents. For the RCIA coordinators, this was a joyful moment they had looked forward to in their journey with the catechumens and they are grateful for the support of the priests and leaders of the church
