Easter Ball at Church of the Good Shepherd

“Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice!” This uplifting verse from Philippians 4:4 was the theme for the youth of Good Shepherd Church (GSC) as they ventured into the organising of an Easter-themed night of dinner, dance and fellowship for the youth from 18 to 39 years of age.

The preparation of this ball was no easy feat. The youth committee and organising team from GSC were working up to their necks till the very last minute, with immense effort to promote the ball as well as render to the last minute preparations. Needless to say, it definitely paid off, as the event was indeed a night to remember.

There was a need to bring the youth together as the demands of the everyday life seemed to take a toll on the building of relationships between the young and eager crowd. With that in mind, this ball took flight, with the intention of bringing the joy of Christ to young hearts, and of sharing that joy with each other. The Easter-ball took place on the 27th of May 2017, with a total of 120 tickets, which were all sold out.

Guests were greeted at GSC by the ushering team, who were clad beautifully in their smiles, towards a magical arch, followed by star-studded steps leading to the function hall. Upon arriving, there was a photo-booth set up for guests to have their moment of fame captured by the ever ready photographer.

Walking into the hall, one can’t help but feel taken aback by the mesmerizing lightings and decorations that created an enchanting atmosphere. Fr. Christopher, the parish priest of GSC was also present at the Easter-ball, as a source of motivation, encouragement and a pillar of support for the youth.

A supportive crowd from all over the diocese of Kuala Lumpur came stunningly dressed, in accordance with the dress code; a black-tie event. Young lads were smartly dressed in their shirts and suits, and the ladies were elegant in their evening gowns. A scrumptious 9-course Chinese dinner was laid out on each table, as guests ate to their hearts’ content.

Throughout the evening, the team prepared a range of performances, relating to Christ and the joy of his resurrection. There was an array of indeed, eye-catching gifts that got the crowd crossing their fingers for the lucky draw. The grand prize was a HuaWei smart-phone that was definitely on everyone’s list. A few interesting games, got the crowd warmed up and hyped up through the evening. The effort to dress up did not go to waste as there was a best-dressed competition, with the winner being crowned best-dressed male and female respectively, for the night. A local band, ‘TwentyFourSeven’, featuring local talents from the parish of GSC along with their friends, entertained the crowd for the night, with popular hits, amazing music and outstanding vocals. The highlight towards the end was a short-musical, performed by the organising team, ending with an invitation to the crowd to join the dance floor as the band kept them grooving the evening away.

Having had a successful and joyous celebration to commemorate the joy of Easter, the organising committee of the GSC Youth Easter Ball 2017 extends their heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors, parish BECs’, the band TwentyFourSeven, photographer of the night; Adrian Yong and also all the guests for attending and making it an amazing night.

As Psalm 118:24 echoes, “The Lord has done it this very day, let us rejoice and be glad.”; indeed the joy of Easter brought unity and fellowship, with Christ as the centre of it all!
